Foto de stock - 04 June 2022, Lower Saxony, Brunswick: A grove hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus), also called a standing fly or buzz fly, searches for food on the flowers of a climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea petiolaris). In order to protect itself against predators, the yellow-black coloration of the hoverfly mimics that of a defensive wasp. However, it has no sting itself and is completely harmless. The imitation is also called mimicry. Adult hoverflies feed exclusively on nectar and pollen; along with bees, they are our most important pollinators.
