The trough, in which the ships can travel up or down the approximately 36 meters in the elevator, weighs 9800 tons. After 13 years of construction, the inauguration of the giant ship elevator is now scheduled for October 4, 2022. The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration has invested around 520 million euros in the new lift. The new facility will then be available for general shipping traffic from 05.10.2022.
