Mining company Mibrag has commissioned a huge photovoltaic plant on an old open-cast mine site south of Leipzig. More than 66,000 solar modules stand on a 55-hectare area, according to the company. The new Peres II plant can produce around 38,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year. For the time being, Mibrag will use the electricity internally; later, green hydrogen will be produced.
