Foto de stock - Vaclav Cojocaru and Ivo Muller, who were sentenced to 20 years behind bars for an arson attack on a Roma house in Vitkov, north Moravia, in 2009, were released from the Mirov prison on parole this morning, on May 16, 2023, after having served two-thirds of their term, more than 13 years. The other two convicts in the arson case, David Vaculik and Jaromir Lukes, who were given 22 years, remain in prison. The district court in Sumperk, north Moravia, decided to release Cojocaru and Muller on parole last week. The court imposed a seven-year probation period and supervision on both men, who were convicted of attempted racially motivated multiple murder, and ordered them to pay off the damage incurred. Their defence lawyer Ladislav Mysak drove the men, who were hiding behind the seats of the car, from the prison today. About 20 journalists waiting outside were unable to approach them at all, as the area about 50 metres in front of the prison was protected by prison guards with a dog, and the entrance to the prison was covered by a deliberately placed fire tanker.
