Stock Photo - Foreign tourists at Darjeeling station await the departure of the toy train. At an altitude of 6812 ft, (2076.29 m), Darjeeling is the terminating station for the toy train. The narrow guage service was started by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways in 1881, connecting the hill town to ´New Jalpaiguri´ in the plains. The steam engine hauled joy ride between Darjeeling and Ghum is a popular draw with the tourists. On 5 Dec. 1999, DHR was inscribed on the World Heritage list by UNESCO.
