In northwestern Saxony-Anhalt, vacationers, excursionists and amateur archaeologists can now find out about the megalithic tombs on site. The burial sites in the Altmark, which are listed as above-ground ground monuments, have been provided with information boards as part of a project. Megalithic graves are also called megalithic or mound graves and consist of capstones and supporting stones. The megalithic grave in Stöckheim dates back to the Funnel Beaker Culture and was built between 3600 and 3100 BC. It is 4.5 meters long and 2.9 meters wide. The weight of the capstone is estimated at 22 tons. Photo: Klaus-Dietmar Gabbert/dpa. - Stöckheim/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
