The work of art at the ""Nixenkai"" of the artist Christine Gersch reminds of the long fishing tradition of the place. The famous Stralau folk festival, the Stralau Fish Festival, was first mentioned in 1780. It was a festival of garden restaurants. The peninsula of Stralau, which used to be heavily industrialised, was built on the occasion of the Expo 2000 with over 5000 apartments and 500,000 square metres of office and commercial space and was landscaped with parks.
