Photo de stock - 31 March 2021, Saxony, Markkleeberg: The canal between Lake Markkleeberg (at the back) and Lake Störmthal is closed off with a sheet pile wall. Cracks in the canal embankment between the bodies of water require immediate securing measures. The 850-metre-long Störmthal Canal connects the two lakes - the lock now affected by slides in the embankment compensates for the difference of four metres in the water level of the bodies of water. According to experts, a complete collapse would result in widespread flooding - in the northern urban areas from Markkleeberg to Leipzig. Now diving, surfing, sailing and swimming as well as all boating on the lakes are prohibited until the end of May.
