At Christmas of 1972, the Air Force had still engaged in around 2,000 air raids bombing Hanoi and Haiphong in North Vietnam and caused massive damage. In early 1973 in the ""Operation Homecoming"", 562 U.S.-POWs (Prisoners of War) were released from North Vietnam into the United States.
