This UNESCO World Heritage Site, is where nearly half a million indentured labourers arrived from India between 1834 and 1924 to work on sugar plantations in Mauritius and other destinations they could be sent to. The UNESCO site explains that: “The buildings of Aapravasi Ghat are among the earliest explicit manifestations of what was to become a global economic system and one of the greatest migrations in history.” The pictures shows the exterior wall and the white gate in the distance, the entrance.
