Photo de stock - Designed by architect Juan Guas, the Franciscan monastery was built from 1477 to 1504 by the order of the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II and Isabella I, to commemorate Spain´s victory over the Portuguese army at the Battle of Toro in 1476. The monastery is in Hispano_Flemish Gothic style. The two_storey cloister was designed by the Castilian architect Enrique Egas. It consists of four wings that open to a courtyard through large arches with latticework, bordered by a frieze with animal and vegetable decoration. The upper gallery opens with equilateral arched and is topped with a mudejar coffered ceiling.
