In accordance with mining custom, the tunnel boring machine for the new district heating tunnel under the Elbe was christened ""Hermine"" in Hamburg-Waltershof. The Elbe tunnel, which is just under 1.2 kilometers long and can be walked through, is intended to connect the Hafen energy park with its combined-cycle gas turbine power plant, which is still under construction, and the industrial waste heat from the port operations with the district heating network on the north bank of the Elbe.
