The monument commemorates the 22nd Evangelical Kreuzkantor Julius Otto. The monument was created in 1886 by the sculptor Gustav Kietz for the forecourt of the old Kreuzschule. During the Second World War it was melted down for armament purposes. The redesign in 2010 was done by Niklas Klotz, who added a contemporary figure to the group.
