The Cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale), also known as the Kashubian tree, Acajou tree or kidney tree, is a tree belonging to the sumac family (Anacardiaceae). It grows in a tropical climate and carries cashew apples and cashew kernels. The cashew fruit, a solitary drupaceous fruit or, according to other opinion, a nut, is a small, about 2-2,5 × 1,5 cm large, greenish to brownish, kidney-shaped or boxing glove-shaped structure hanging from a fleshy, thickened fruit stalk. This kidney-shaped cashew fruit is harvested and the well-known cashew kernel is obtained from it. Photo: Alexandra Schuler/dpa. - Phuket/Phuket/Thailand
