On the same day, an airborne vegetation firefighting exercise was held at the airfield east of Berlin by fire departments, the German Federal Police and the German Armed Forces. The focus was on the practical use of air coordinators as a link between emergency forces in the air and on the ground. During the joint exercise, the fire departments practiced and deepened their interaction with the helicopter pilots of the Federal Police and the Federal Armed Forces in setting up landing sites and operating mobile water extraction points (fireflextank). The past forest fire seasons in Brandenburg have shown how successful coordinated firefighting from the air can be. In order to be well equipped for the future in this area, trained aerial coordinators from Brandenburg fire departments trained for the first time in a practical seminar held by the Brandenburg State School and Technical Facility for Fire and Disaster Protection (LSTE) with the Blumberg Federal Police Air Squadron and the German Armed Forces.
