The five-time world champion bid a symbolic farewell to top rowing at the end of the home World Championships in Racice, where he was joined on the course by long-time rivals and friends, led by New Zealander Mahe Drysdale. Synek officially retired from active racing almost exactly one year ago, his last race appearance was last May. Today in Racice, Synek, Drysdale, Olaf Tufte from Norway, Briton Alan Campbell, Swede Lasse Karonen and Iztok Cop from Slovenia raced not on the traditional two-kilometre course, but on the five-hundred.
