Photo de stock - PRODUCTION - 24 October 2023, Thuringia, Altenburg: In his workshop at Hut und Kostüm GmbH, milliner Thomas Krause discusses with deputy managing director Anna Sydow the making of a two-pointed hat based on the head measurements of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) from a museum. The former Emperor of the French is also said to have worn a two-pointed hat from Altenburg during his time as a general. The employees are currently working on a wide variety of costumes, hats, caps and top hats for the upcoming carnival season. Especially in demand are the custom-made costumes for carnival associations, the uniforms for the Elferrat and the Tanzmariechen. The small Altenburg company with ten employees is one of the few companies in Germany that still manufactures top hats and bowler hats, among other things, partly according to traditional traditions. More than 150 years ago, the small town in Thuringia was known as a world center for the production of the headdresses, which are already in demand again today.
