The first residents living near the 3M factory have their blood taken to test for the presence of the chemical compound PFAS. It is the start of a lengthy and large-scale blood test in which all residents within a radius of 5 km around the factory can participate. The blood tests are carried out by Eurofins Belgium on behalf of the Department of Care and Health. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds that have multiple fluorine atoms attached to an alkyl chain.
