Photo de stock - 1956 - 'Gran Tierra' In one of the most distant places of Oriente province, in Gran Tierra, the Cuban Revolution has just inaugurated an important series of new constructions. Gran Tierra, belongs to the municipality of Maisi, with 26,000 inhabitants, which is located near Cape Maisi, the eastern most Cuban locality. Gran Tierra was almost inaccessible, hidden by the mountains of the eastern province and totally forgotten by the different Cuban governments prior to the Revolution. Overcoming enormous difficulties in the transportation of building materials, several constructions were inaugurated last July 26 - as a salute to the glorious date which commemorates the assault against the Moncada Garrison - which have totally changed the general appearance of Gran Tierra. Two mountain boarding schools, with a capacity for three hundred students each; five nurseries for 120 children each; a modern hospital with full medical service; 73 schools, with a total attendance capacity for 4,287 children; a general building with a barber shop, beauty parlour, cafeteria; six park; an aqueduct to serve the largest part.
