It is the largest remaining Romanesque building in Europe and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica was built in the 11th and 12th centuries and is dedicated to Saint Saturnin, the first bishop of Toulouse. The Basilica of Saint-Sernin is considered one of France's most important Romanesque monuments and is an example of the pilgrimage church type. The church consists of a nave with four aisles, an ambulatory with an apse, and a western façade with two towers. The church is decorated with stained-glass windows, frescoes, and sculpted capitals. The basilica also houses numerous relics and a crypt containing the tombs of Saturnin and other bishops of Toulouse.
