Native to Africa, Italy, Sicily, Greece and Asia minor. Red head, grey-brown back and long tail. White. High pitched scream. Habitat: Mediterranian environment, close to rocky areas for nesting. Behaviour: Often hunt in pairs. Fast, acrobatic flyer. Much, but not all of the Lanner Falcon´s prey is taken in the air, when the falcon descends to its prey and binds to it with a smack which can be heard some way off. It then carries it off. Breeding: Breeding pairs usually stay together for life and breed between June and September, nesting on cliffs.
