Mountain goats (Capra pyrenaica hispanica) are a subspecies of wild goat found in the Pyrenees Mountains and in some parts of Asia, including Spain, France, and Italy. They are adapted to high-altitude environments, and they are strong climbers, using their hooves and horns to traverse dangerous and rocky terrain. Female mountain goats have slightly longer horns than males and typically range in shade from dark gray-brown to nearly black. They live in herds, with the dominant female leading the group. During the mating season, males battle each other for dominance and access to females. Females usually give birth to one or two kids per year; newborns keep up with the herd within hours of their birth. Mountain goats inhabit alpine areas up to 4000 meters, consisting of grassy slopes and rocky outcrops. They feed on grasses, herbs, lichens, and woody plants.
