Male mountain goats (Capra pyrenaica hispanica) on rock can typically be seen in mountain areas, especially in Spain's Sierra Javalambré natural park. In this location, the male mountain goats indicated by their white, rugged fur slicking, are highly adapted to their mountainous environment, favoring rocky slopes of the terrain to help with agility and defense from predators. They are charactersitic of ruggedness and prefer a steep incline which allows them a clear view of their surrounding for safety and also water resources. Mountain goats are herbivores, so a diverse vegetation provides ample foraging and grazing opportunities. In the Champion Male Mountain Goat Competition, held annually in the Sierra Javalambré Natural Park, Capra pyrenaica hispanica are judged on size and dominance to determine the alpha male of the herd. This competition has helped to increase awareness and conservation initiatives across the region.
