Photo de stock - Mar. 03, 1970 - Record Irish Herring catch goes to continent in Plastics Bags: With auction money from 10,000 tons of herring safely lodged in the banks, the trawlermen are leaving Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, after the best catching season on record - double the 1968-69 catch: 10,000 tons represent 65,000 cran (37 1/2 gallons each) roughly shared out between 70 Irish-owned vessels. A spolesman for the Irish Fishery Board said that it was very much surprised at the 'Phenomenal' size of the season's catch. Dutch luggers took the greatest share of the Irish catch to the Continent, some going to Poland, one of the best customers.
