The project of the Fraunhofer Institute IMWS and Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) has been integrated into the new intensive traning centre of Chemical and Biosystems Engineering, which was launched in June. Alongside four institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, numerous industrial companies in the region are participating in the centre, as well as the University of Halle. The focus is on the chemical industry and biomedical research alike - the procedural issues are often similar. So to be developed, for example, are renewable resources which are first raw materials such as proteins, then semi-finished products such as pharmaceutical ingredients, finally end products such as medicines and cosmetics. A total of 13 million euros will be invested by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the state and by the industrial partners involved in the training center.
