Stock Photo - The olive or olive is the fruit of the olive tree. The plant comes from Greece and Asia Minor, where it can still be found in forests of wild olive trees or ""wild olive trees"", where it does not have the characteristic regular alignment typical of cultivated plants. Olives are consumed both ground (as oil) and fresh, first going through a maceration process that eliminates the bitter taste they have due to a glycoside known as oleuropein. In Spain, seasoned olives taken as an aperitif are very popular.
