Stock Photo - Viewed in this 1954 photograph is the NACA High Speed Flight Research Station’s D_558_2 2 144, an all rocket powered Skyrocket. Like the X_1, the D_558_2 had a fuselage shaped like a .50 caliber bullet. Unlike both the X_1 and the D_558_1, it had swept wings. To accommodate them required a completely different design than that used for the earlier straight_wing D_558_1.
