The museum documents the construction of the Danish section of the German Atlantic Wall, a system of coastal defence fortifications stretching from southwestern France to northwestern Norway, during the German occupation of Denmark in the Second World War. The bunker on the site of today's museum was never completed. The museum, which also covers several other regional topics, was designed by the Bjarke Ingels architecture bureau and opened on the 19 June 2017.
