During extensive excavations, employees of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology have uncovered hundreds of finds on the history of the castle. In addition to ten graves with burials from the 17th century, archaeologists have also recovered ammunition from the Thirty Years' War, marbles, vessels and jewellery. Querfurt Castle was built in the 10th century, was rebuilt and extended several times and eventually, turned out to be seven times larger than Wartburg Castle.
