Stock Photo - 09 April 2020, Saxony, Leipzig: In the belfry of St. Thomas' Church the two fitters Rene Müller and Sven Hirche (r-l) from Heidenauer Glockenläute- und Elektroanlagen GmbH are working on the completion of the new wooden construction for the suspension of the oldest and largest bell, the Gloriosa from 1477. The belfry in St. Thomas' Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach has his final resting place, had to be restored because of the condition of the bells, incorrect suspensions and outdated drive technology. After completion of the first phase of construction, the Gloriosa is scheduled to resound again in the coming weeks. Around 500,000 euros are needed for the entire bell project, which also provides for an extension of the ringing by four small bells by the end of 2021.
