Since late summer 1938 prisoners of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp had to build the world's largest brick factory not far from the Lehnitz lock near Oranienburg to supply the building materials for the gigantic construction projects of the Nazi leadership in the Reich capital Berlin. For this purpose, the SS drove up to 2,000 prisoners a day across the canal bridge into the brick factory under the eyes of the Oranienburg population. On the way back, the prisoners carried a cart loaded with the day's casualties. As a ""death camp"", the command was particularly feared among the prisoners, especially since the SS used the clinker factory as a scene of targeted murder Photo: Jörg Carstensen/dpa. - Oranienburg/Brandenburg/Germany
