Stock Photo - 02 September 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (Saale): Thomas Bauer-Friedrich, director of the Moritzburg Art Museum, judges the two returned works (top l-r) ""Old woman at the front door"" and ""Venetian Alley"" (both 1878) by the German painter Max Liebermann in the exhibition above the work ""Weaving in Laren"" and next to the portrait of a gentleman (portrait of Friedrich Kuhnt). The two works are now returning to the Kunstmuseum in Halle/Saale on permanent loan 82 years after being removed from the museum collection. The paintings by Max Liebermann were removed from the collection in 1938. The then head of the department of the Moritzburg Museum in Halle/Saale supported the request of the former director of the museum with the following words: ""The two pictures by Liebermann that are to be returned are no longer usable for us as exhibits, since Liebermann is Jewish.
