Stock Photo - Mar. 10, 1980 - 'Rocket' Launch For New Stamps The clock was turned back 150 years today when a replica of Stephenson Rocket steamed into St. Pancras Station, London, to mark the Post Office's special train issue which goes on sale on Wednesday. The Replica Rocket-along with an open wagon and closed coach steamed into St. Pancras Station after a historic half-mile run. On the footplate and clad in 19th century attire were Peter Semmens, assistant curator of the National Railway Museum at York, where the locomotive is kept. The five special stamps, all first class 12P, have been produced to commemorate the running, in 1850, of the world's first train to carry both mail and passengers-on the Liverpool and Manchester railways.
