Stock Photo - 01 July 2019, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Stralsund: A young European white donkey stands with his mother in the enclosure of the Stralsund Zoo. The breeding history of this rare donkey form can be traced back over 300 years. For several years now, Hungarian, Austrian and German breeders have been working together in a joint breeding programme to record the remaining stocks and establish a conservation breed. With over 100,000 visitors a year, the city's zoo is one of the Hanseatic city's main tourist attractions. With an area of 16 hectares and a population of around 1,100 animals in over 170 species, the zoo is one of the largest zoos in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There are several anniversaries to celebrate this year at Stralsund Zoo: 60 years ago, the construction of the first enclosures in the city forest of Stralsund began, laying the foundation stone for today's zoo. This year, the 50th zoo festival is celebrated on July 7th. Photo: Stefan Sauer/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa. - Stralsund/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Germany
