Stock Photo - 02 December 2021, Saxony, Kemberg: The pastor of St. Mary's Church in Kemberg, Nathanael Schulz, stands in an adjoining room of the nave at the remains of the winged altar by Lucas Cranach the Younger (around 1565), which was almost completely destroyed in a smouldering fire in 1994. The Romanian artist Mariana Lepadus from Eisleben created a 5.75-metre-high replica of the destroyed winged altar on behalf of five master craftsmen from the town, who had raised almost 74,000 euros with a Germany-wide appeal for donations.... Since the replica, which was completed in 2014, may not be set up in the church interior of the listed house of worship, it will now find a suitable place in the cemetery chapel in the next few years after renovation work. Until then, the master electrician wants to ""grant the painting asylum"" in his office under good climatic conditions.
