The airport continues to develop into one of the most important hubs for air freight in Europe. Although passenger volumes fell, mainly as a result of the Corona pandemic, cargo throughput increased significantly: in 2020, it rose by 11.7 percent to just under 1.4 million tonnes. In December alone, air freight increased by 35 percent. Thanks to special certification, sensitive pharmaceutical products can also be handled at the airport, which could therefore play an important role in the handling of Corona vaccines.
