Stock Photo - 02 July 2019, Syria, Kafar Awid: The former refugee Sakar al-Hassan (name changed), who has returned to Syria from Germany, rises over the rubble of a destroyed house. The 24-year-old arrived in Germany in 2015, was accommodated in a suburb of Bonn and applied for asylum. But at the beginning of 2018 he had to return because of what he called an ""urgent family matter"". Al-Hassan decided to return voluntarily, although he could have stayed in Germany. Al-Hassan, who has no permanent job and keeps his head above water with odd jobs, regrets his decision today. He lives in the south of the province of Idlib, the last great rebel stronghold in the country. Fighter planes of the government of President Bashar al-Assad and his allies are continuously flying air raids there. Most of his relatives have fled, says Al-Hassan.
