Stock Photo - 03 June 2022, Saxony, Leipzig: Martin Dulig (SPD), Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, stands at the construction site of the gas-fired power plant of Leipziger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft. Three years ago, the municipal utility decided to end district heating from lignite and planned a new combined heat and power plant. Equipped with two gas turbines, each with an electrical output of 62.5 megawatts, the power plant is the first in Germany to be suitable for the combustion of hydrogen. A 60-meter-high hot water storage tank with 43,000 cubic meters of water and solar collectors for hot water production are to guarantee Co2-free supply security for the city. The 180 million euro investment is scheduled to go online at the end of 2022. Photo: Jan Woitas/dpa. - Leipzig/Saxony/Germany
