Stock Photo - 03 November 2021, Brandenburg, Rauen: The small Markgrafenstein is located in the autumnal forest in the Rauen mountains, also called Rauener Berge. Near this stone, at the highest point of the 153-metre-high Rauener Berge, stands a 40-metre-high observation tower. In good weather, you have a wonderful view from here, for example as far as Berlin. The Rauen Mountains are widely known for the Margrave's Stones. The glacier advances during the Ice Age ensured that rock blocks of various sizes were transported over thousands of kilometres with the inland ice from Scandinavia. Particularly large stones were deposited in the Rauen Mountains, the largest being the large and the small Markgrafenstein. Both stones are made of granite.
