The settlement covered about 11 hectares and was founded between the 11th and 12th centuries. The village was abandoned as early as the 15th century. The village is one of about 100 in the Harz region, which disappeared during the Middle Ages and are now called deserted areas. The excavations are important because there have hardly been any systematic investigations in the Eastern Harz so far.
