The monument to composer Ludwig van Beethoven, inaugurated some 175 years ago, has been lifted from its pedestal on Münsterplatz for restoration. Erected in 1845 to commemorate Beethoven's 75th birthday, the statue was designed by sculptor Ernst Julius Hähnel. It is one of the most popular photo motifs in the city.
