Stock Photo - 06 November 2018, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (Saale): At the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics, the deaf microstructure physicist Dr. Ingo Barth (r) communicates with his Chinese colleague Dr. Kunlong Liu with the support of sign language interpreter Carina Dounz. 42-year-old Ingo Barth is the first German deaf person to hold a doctorate in chemistry. As head of the research group ""Current carrying quantum dynamics"", he and his five colleagues are working on the ionization of current carrying atoms and molecules in strong laser pulses and on the generation of spin polarized electrons. The results may open up perspectives for spin-resolved experiments to investigate ultrafast processes in atoms and molecules.
