Stock Photo - 07 January 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Wittenberg Lutherstadt: In the historic printers' room at Cranach Hof Schlossstrasse 1, a visitor from Chemnitz and a visitor from Switzerland stand with Andreas Metschke (r-l) at typesetting boxes containing many thousands of lead type. The master bookbinder and trained typesetter gives visitors from all over the world an insight into the old techniques of letterpress printing in the historic courtyard where the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) had his home, a painting workshop, a pharmacy and also a print shop. Born 550 years ago in Kronach (Bavaria), Cranach is said to have painted the reformer Martin Luther in the rooms in 1508 and printed his Bible translation in 1517/18.
