In 1900, King Wilhelm of Prussia had signed the concession document requested by Niederbarnim for the ""Reinickendorf-Liebenwalde-Groß Schönebecker Eisenbahn-Aktiengesellschaft"". As early as May 1901, the first steam trains were running on the Liebenwalde - Basdorf - Reinickendorf-Rosenthal and Basdorf - Groß Schönebeck lines. The railroad was called the ""Heidekrautbahn"" by passengers, but was also of great value for freight traffic. The NEB has been striving for many years to put the historic line to Berlin-Wilhelmsruh back into operation. A planning agreement for the line extension has already been signed.
