Stock Photo - 09 April 2019, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Stralsund: The sandstone base of the monument to the Napoleon opponent and Freikorps leader Ferdinand von Schill is restored. Schill was killed by Napoleonic troops in street fighting in Stralsund on 31 May 1809. Since October 2018, a Berlin company has been commissioned by the Hanseatic City of Stralsund to remove all deposits and foreign matter from the bronze statue with a scalpel and brush and to preserve it. By May, the sandstone pedestal should also be ready. According to the city, the renovation costs for the monument dating from 1909 amount to 60,000 euros.
