Four Easter fires burn simultaneously around Attendorn on Easter Sunday. They are set up by four Easter fire associations (Ennester Tor, Kölner Tor, Niederstes Tor and Wassertor), the so-called Porten, named after the old city gates of Attendorn. Volunteers pull up a spruce up to 30 meters high with an Easter cross at the top at all four places. There is evidence that this tradition was recorded in writing in the 19th century.
