Stock Photo - 09 July 2021, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Jatznick: Gunther Baumung checks pine cones stored in one of the drying rooms of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state seed kiln, which was rebuilt in 1937 after a fire. Up to 600 tons of cones could be stored in the kiln for drying and cleaning. In the Samendarre, a facility of the State Forestry Institute, cones and fruits are dried, processed and stored. In Jatznik, seeds of 96 species of trees and shrubs are in stock. On average, the four employees in the production department obtain about 30 tons of seeds annually, which are primarily used for the regeneration of the state forest, but are also sold to private forest owners and tree nurseries.
