Stock Photo - 09 June 2021, Saxony, Pockau-Lengefeld: Tree trunks lie on several piles in a bare forest area on a ridge in the Ore Mountains. The forest here has been badly affected in recent years not only by drought and bark beetles, but also by several storms. In order to ensure the rapid removal of the felled timber and to prevent the bark beetle from attacking, the loading station in Pockau-Lengefeld was even reactivated in 2020. In 2019 alone, bark beetles in Saxony left behind more than two million cubic metres of damaged wood on several thousand hectares of forest.
