In the autumn of 1948, work began on the ""Pionier"" tractor at the Horch plant, based on a pre-war design by the Wroclaw FAMO Works. The RS in the type designation stood for wheeled tractors, 01 for the first IFA tractor and 40 for the power in PS. On 18.05.1949 the first of the five prototypes was finished. In total there were 2600 pieces, then the production was shifted to Thuringia. Photo: Claudia Drescher/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Zwickau/Saxony/Germany
