Stock Photo - 09 September 2019, Saxony, Leipzig: An excavator is recovering part of an old tank on the site of the former Lacufa tank farm (formerly VEB Farben und Lackfabrik Leipzig). Chemical substances have been stored on the site since 1928. Solvents and paint thinners were stored in seven underground tanks with a total capacity of 200,000 litres. During many years of operation, considerable quantities of the substances were released into the soil. 80 percent of the refurbishment costs of EUR 1.4 million will be refinanced by the state of Saxony. Complicated ownership and legal succession had so far prevented an effective remediation of contaminated sites. Photo: Jan Woitas/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa. - Leipzig/Saxony/Germany
